Mount Fuji (富士山) is Japan's highest mountain with 3776 meters height. Mt Fuji is still an active volcano, recently erupted in 1707. It is located on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures and can be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama on clear days. Mount Fuji has also been registered as world heritage in UNESCO.
Mount Fuji is also very popular among mountain climbers (both Japanese and also foreign tourists). The official climbing season is from early July to Mid September when the trails and facilities are open. During this period, the snow on Mount Fuji has melted down and the weather becomes mild. During climbing period, there are lots of climbers and sometimes climbers line up just to climb Mount Fuji. So visitors are advised to climb during weekdayto avoid the crowds. There are lots of trail to climb Mount Fuji with average ascent around 5 ~ 6 hours and descent 3 ~ 5 hours. The best experience of climbing Mount Fuji is to enjoy the sunrise from Japan's highest point. Climbing Mount Fuji does not require special climbing skills. However the main challenge is the fact that it is very tiring and the air gets thinner as you climb higher.
Besides climbing Mount Fuji, most tourist enjoy Mount Fuji by just staying in hot spring resort in around Hakone and Lake Kawaguchi.

Fuji Autumn starts from around October to December. The temperature ranges from 8 ~ 20 Celcius. You will see trees turn into reddish and yellowish color. This is a great season to climb mountains.
Fuji Winter starts from around January to March. The temperature ranges from 0 ~ 10 Celcius.
