The last multiple eruptions of Mount Fuji have created multiple caves in the Fuji Five Lake region around the northern area of the mountain. Today there are 3 caves that have been developed and opened to tourists to be explored without special equipments and guides. However please be careful since some caves have passages with low ceilings and slippery steps.
Ice Cave
The best part of ice cave is you will experience the cold temperature once you get inside the cave. Even during the summer, the temperature inside is usually below freezing. This cave has been used to store ice for use since the early 1900s.
Wind Cave
Located close to Ice Cave, Wind Cave also has temperature below freezing point the whole year. It is also said that Wind Cave was used as a natural storehouse and refrigerator in the past.
Bat Cave
The Bat Cave has a total of nearly 350 meters long and was named after its former inhabitants.
