DESCRIPTION
The last multiple eruptions of Mount Fuji created several caves in the Fuji Five Lakes region, located in the northern area of the mountain. Today, three caves are open to tourists and can be explored without special equipment or guides. However, visitors should exercise caution, as some passages have low ceilings and slippery steps.
Ice Cave
The Ice Cave offers a unique experience of sub-zero temperatures, even in summer. Historically, this cave was used to store ice since the early 1900s.
Wind Cave
Located near the Ice Cave, the Wind Cave also maintains freezing temperatures year-round. It was used in the past as a natural storehouse and refrigerator.
Bat Cave
The Bat Cave stretches nearly 350 meters long and is named after the bats that once inhabited it.
Access
The easiest way to reach the Mount Fuji caves is by bus from nearby stations or major locations.
