SUMMARY
The Mount Fuji Lava Caves are among the most unique natural attractions in the Fuji Five Lakes area, created by lava flows from past Mount Fuji eruptions. Visitors can explore three famous caves — Ice Cave, Wind Cave, and Bat Cave — and experience underground lava formations, naturally cool temperatures, and a different side of Mount Fuji's volcanic history. Located near Lake Saiko and Aokigahara Forest, these caves are popular attractions for families and visitors looking for unique experiences near Mount Fuji.

DESCRIPTION

The Mount Fuji Lava Caves were formed by multiple eruptions of Mount Fuji more than one thousand years ago and are located within the Aokigahara Forest in the Fuji Five Lakes area. Today, three caves are open to visitors and can be explored without special equipment or guides. However, visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be careful of low ceilings, narrow pathways, and slippery steps inside the caves.

Narusawa Ice Cave (Ice Cave)
The Ice Cave offers a unique experience where temperatures remain below freezing or near freezing even during summer. Historically, the cave was used as a natural ice storage facility in the early 1900s. Visitors can see ice pillars and fascinating lava formations inside the cave.

Fugaku Wind Cave (Wind Cave)
Located close to the Ice Cave, the Wind Cave maintains naturally cold temperatures throughout the year. The cave was previously used as a natural refrigerator and storage area because of its cool environment.

Saiko Bat Cave (Bat Cave)
The Bat Cave stretches approximately 350 meters and is the largest lava cave among the three. It was named after the bats that once inhabited the cave and offers visitors an opportunity to explore the underground lava tunnel environment.

Because of their volcanic history and unique underground scenery, the Mount Fuji Lava Caves are considered one of the most interesting things to do near Mount Fuji and Lake Saiko.
