SUMMARY
Kushida Shrine is one of Fukuoka's most important and historic Shinto shrines. Known as the guardian shrine of Hakata, it is famous for its connection to the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival and attracts visitors seeking culture, history, and spiritual blessings.

DESCRIPTION

Kushida Shrine is located in the heart of Hakata, Fukuoka, and has a history dating back more than 1,200 years.

The shrine is dedicated to several deities believed to bring prosperity, longevity, and protection to local residents and businesses. Because of its long history and cultural importance, Kushida Shrine is considered the spiritual center of Hakata.

The shrine is best known as the focal point of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival, one of Japan's most famous traditional festivals. Every July, teams of men carry massive decorated floats through the streets of Hakata in a spectacular display of energy and tradition.

Visitors can view a permanent Yamakasa festival float displayed within the shrine grounds throughout the year. The float showcases the incredible craftsmanship and artistry associated with the festival.

Other highlights include the sacred ginkgo tree, traditional shrine architecture, historical gates, and seasonal events held throughout the year.
