DESCRIPTION
Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion) is a famous Zen temple located in northern Kyoto. Its top two floors are entirely covered in gold leaf, giving the temple its iconic shimmering appearance.
The best view of Kinkakuji is from across the pond, where visitors can admire the temple’s reflection on the water. Note that the main hall is not open to the public. Along the walking path to the temple, you’ll also encounter beautifully landscaped Japanese gardens, making the visit a peaceful and scenic experience.
Access
Kinkakuji can be easily reached from Kyoto Station by taking the Kyoto City Bus number 101 or 205. The journey takes about 40 minutes and costs ¥230.
