DESCRIPTION

Shirakawa-go is a historic mountain village located in Gifu Prefecture and is one of Japan's most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The village is best known for its gassho-zukuri farmhouses, whose steep thatched roofs resemble hands joined together in prayer. These unique structures were designed to withstand the region's heavy winter snowfall.

Many of the farmhouses are over 250 years old and continue to be used as residences, museums, restaurants, and guesthouses.

One of the most popular viewpoints is the Shiroyama Observation Deck, which offers panoramic views of the village and surrounding mountains. The scenery changes beautifully throughout the seasons, from cherry blossoms in spring to lush greenery in summer, colorful foliage in autumn, and snow-covered landscapes in winter.

The winter illumination events are particularly famous, transforming the village into a magical scene that attracts visitors from around the world.

Visitors can explore traditional houses, learn about rural life, enjoy local cuisine, and experience the rich cultural heritage of the Hida region.

Shirakawa-go is widely considered one of the most beautiful villages in Japan and is a must-visit destination when traveling through central Japan.
