DESCRIPTION
Okinawa previously was not called Okinawa, it was called Ryukyu. The former capital of Ryukyu Kingdom is Shuri, but now changed to be a city district of Naha. Nowadays Shuri castle has become the largest historical side in Okinawa and has been registered as UNESCO World Heritage because the unique structure and architecture that combined Japanese style with Chinese style.
There are many things displayed in Shuri castle. You can see historical artifacts both made on Okinawa or received during foreign trade, informative exhibits that outlining the history of Ryukyu Kingdom, and so on.
Access
By Car
The best way to visit Shuri Castle is to use private transport / sightseeing taxi in Okinawa. Easy Travel has lots of sightseeing taxi in Okinawa with afforable price.
By Okinawa Monorail
Drop off Shuri Station. Shuri Castle is around 15-20 minutes walk from here or aroudn 5 minute ride by bus (¥150). Take bus number 7 or 8 and get off at Shurijo-mae (首里城前)
By Bus
Take bus number 1 directly from central Naha (Kokusaidori) to Shuri Castle. The one way trip takes about 15-20 minutes and costs 230 yen. Get off at Shurijo Koen Iriguchi (首里城公園入口).
