DESCRIPTION
Churaumi Aquarium is located on the Motobu Peninsula in northern Okinawa Honto, approximately 90 kilometers from Naha. Widely regarded as one of Japan’s best aquariums, it is also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Okinawa, drawing over 3 million visitors each year.
The aquarium is part of the Ocean Expo Park, home to around 740 species and 21,000 marine animals. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits, from shallow-water creatures like starfish and seashells—many of which you can touch—to fascinating marine life from deeper seas. Don’t miss the interactive touch pools where kids and adults alike can get hands-on with marine life.
The highlight of Churaumi Aquarium is the Kuroshio Tank, one of the largest aquarium tanks in the world. Here, you can marvel at majestic manta rays, sharks, and even whale sharks swimming gracefully. Many visitors spend the most time in this awe-inspiring tank. There’s also a small cafe overlooking the tank, allowing you to enjoy your meal while watching marine life in action.
Whether you’re interested in marine biology, family-friendly attractions, or simply looking for the best things to do in Okinawa, Churaumi Aquarium is an unforgettable experience.
