DESCRIPTION
Hakone (箱根) is located less than 100 km from Tokyo. Hakone is famous for its hot springs resort and Lake Ashinoko with Mount Fuji view. When the day is clear, you can enjoy Mount Fuji view from Hakone.
There are 2 top tourist attraction in Hakone which is cruising Lake Ashinoko and visiting Owakudani.
Lake Ashinoko
The best way to enjoy Lake Ashinoko is to board Pirates Ship Hakone Sightseeing Boats. The cruise operates between Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi at the lake's southern shores and Togendai and Kojiri at the lake's northern end. The cruise usually takes 30 minutes and costs around ¥1000. You can also use "Hakone Free Pass" to board the cruise for free. In Moto-Hakone there are some restaurants and rest area. The main attraction in Moto Hakone is Hakone Shrine (Hakone's most famous shinto shrine). It takes around 15 minutes walk from Moto Hakone to Hakone Shrine.
Owakudani
Owakudani (大涌谷) is area around a crated created during last eruption of Mount Hakone around 3000 years ago. There are ropeway connecting Togendai and Owakudani. Usually tourist use the ropeway to reach here.
There is a short walking trails from the ropeway station into the volcanic zone. Here you will find number of steam vents and bubble pools.
In Owakudani, you can also purchase the black egg which are said to prolong one's life by 7 years. The eggs are actually normal eggs boiled in natural hot water in Owakudani. Due to the natural hot water, the eggs' shell are blackened by the sulfur.
In addition, Owakudani has a great view of Mount Fuji on clear days.
* However nowadays, due to high volcanic activity in the area, visitors are not allowed to visit Owakudani. The ropeway does operate but visitors are not allowed to get off Owakudani ropeway station.

3 Go back to Togendai using Hakone Ropeway.
4 Board cruise from Togendai station to Moto-Hakone.
5 Walk around moto-hakone to Hakone Shrine direction

7 Board cruise from Moto-Hakone back to Togendai station.

The main transportation system to reach Hakone is by using bus.
