DESCRIPTION

Hakone Shrine (箱根神社) is a historic Shinto shrine located on the shores of Lake Ashi in Hakone. The shrine was originally founded in 757 AD and has long been regarded as a sacred place of worship and spiritual power.

The shrine is surrounded by beautiful forests with tall cedar trees, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere away from busy city life. Visitors reach the main shrine area by walking through traditional stone pathways and climbing a short set of stairs lined with towering trees.

One of Hakone Shrine’s most famous features is the Peace Torii (Heiwa no Torii), a bright red torii gate standing near the edge of Lake Ashi. This scenic gate with Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji in the background has become one of Hakone’s most recognizable photography spots.

Hakone Shrine is also believed to bring good fortune, traffic safety, success, and luck in relationships, attracting many visitors who come to pray throughout the year.

During autumn, colorful leaves make the area especially beautiful, while winter offers a calm atmosphere and clear views of the surrounding mountains.

Combining natural beauty, traditional Japanese culture, and spiritual significance, Hakone Shrine remains one of the most recommended things to do in Hakone.
