SUMMARY
Usuzan Ropeway and Lake Toya are among Hokkaido's most spectacular natural attractions. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Toya, Mount Usu, Showa Shinzan, and the surrounding volcanic landscape from one of the best observation points in southern Hokkaido.

DESCRIPTION

Lake Toya is one of Japan's most beautiful caldera lakes and is part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park. The lake is famous for its crystal-clear waters, scenic islands, and year-round beauty.

Adjacent to the lake is Mount Usu, one of Japan's most active volcanoes. Visitors can take the Usuzan Ropeway from the base station near Showa Shinzan to the upper station in approximately six minutes.

From the summit observation deck, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Lake Toya, Mount Yotei, Funka Bay, and the volcanic landscape shaped by past eruptions. Walking trails near the summit provide even closer views of volcanic craters and geological features.

Another nearby highlight is Showa Shinzan, a volcanic lava dome that emerged during eruptions between 1943 and 1945 and remains one of Japan's most famous examples of volcanic activity.

Throughout the year, Lake Toya offers different scenery, from cherry blossoms in spring and lush greenery in summer to colorful autumn foliage and snow-covered landscapes in winter. The area is also famous for its hot springs, making it a popular destination for both sightseeing and relaxation.
