DESCRIPTION
Osaka Castle is one of the most famous landmarks in Osaka and a must-visit attraction for travelers. It was originally built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and was considered the largest castle in Japan during his rule.
Throughout history, Osaka Castle has been destroyed and rebuilt several times — during the wars in 1615, 1665, and again during World War II.
Today, the castle has been beautifully restored and stands proudly inside Osaka Castle Park. It takes about 15 minutes on foot through the park to reach the main building. The park itself is one of Osaka’s most popular hanami (cherry blossom viewing) spots. If you visit during the sakura season, don’t miss the chance to take a photo with cherry blossoms and the majestic castle in the background.
Inside the main tower, you’ll find a museum showcasing Osaka’s history. Visitors can also climb to the top observatory deck to enjoy a panoramic view of Osaka city.
Access
The recommended approach to Osaka Castle is through the Otemon Gate, located at the park’s southwestern corner. The nearest subway access is Tanimachi 4-chome Station on the Tanimachi Subway Line and Chuo Subway Line.
For JR users, the closest station is Osakajokoen Station on the JR Loop Line, just a 10-minute ride (160 yen) from JR Osaka Station.
