The northern area of the station is Kabukicho, known as Japan's largest red-light district.

The western area of Shinjuku Station is home to office buildings and several premier hotels. Here, you can visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office and enjoy panoramic views of Tokyo from its observatory decks for free.
