DESCRIPTION
Mount Takao (高尾山, Takaosan) is the closest mountain to reach from Tokyo. There are several number of hiking trails lead up to the top of Mount Takao. Lots visitors use trail number 1 which is broad and mostly paved. The other trails are narrower, unpaved and less traffic. The hike to the top of Mount Takao takes about 90 minutes from the base.
There is also cablecar or chair lift that can take you up from the base to the middle of the mountain.
During the hike, you will also come acrross several temple with Yakuoin is the most attractive temple.
Mount Takao is best visited around mid November where all the leaves turn reddish and yellowish. During this time, Mount Takao is very crowded especially in weekends or any other holiday.

It takes only 50 minutes, ¥390 from Shinjuku by train

Cable car opens 8:00 to around 17:45 (longer hours on weekends and holidays)
Departures every 15 minutes
