Osaka’s Dotonbori Glico Sign to Be Replaced for Spring 2027

Ezaki Glico says the current sixth-generation Dotonbori sign will finish its display at the end of November 2026. Renewal work begins in December, with a seventh-generation sign planned for spring 2027.

The familiar Glico Running Man sign above Dotonbori in Osaka is due for a renewal. Ezaki Glico announced that the current sixth-generation sign will end its display at the end of November 2026.

Renewal work is scheduled to begin in December, and the seventh-generation sign is planned to appear in spring 2027. The company says the Glico runner will remain part of the sign’s identity.

Visitors hoping to photograph the current version should plan their Dotonbori visit before the end of November. During the renovation, the sign may be covered or unavailable, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed sightseeing stop.

The announcement concerns the billboard itself; Dotonbori’s restaurants, canal-side walkways and surrounding attractions remain separate. Check local updates if you are visiting specifically to see the sign during the transition.
