Indian Travellers Keep ₹500 Japan Visa Fee Despite Global Hike
Japan raised visa fees globally from July 1, 2026, but Indian passport holders reportedly continue to pay a concessional ₹500 fee for both single-entry and multiple-entry tourist visas under a special bilateral arrangement.
Indian travellers appear to be an important exception to Japan's 2026 visa-fee increase.
Japan raised standard visa fees from July 1, 2026, including increases to ¥15,000 for single-entry visas and ¥30,000 for multiple-entry visas. However, reporting based on confirmation from the Embassy of Japan in India says Indian passport holders will continue to pay a concessional fee of ₹500 for both single-entry and multiple-entry visas.
This exception is country-specific. It should not be assumed to apply to travellers from Indonesia, China, the Philippines, Vietnam or other countries that require Japanese visas.
Indian travellers should still check the latest application rules, documents, processing times and eligible visa categories through the Embassy of Japan in India or authorized visa application centers before applying.
For travellers from other countries, the broader July 2026 visa-fee increase remains relevant. Visa-exempt visitors are not directly affected unless they need to apply for a visa or a different immigration procedure.
